Nigeria will be net exporter of food – Tinubu assures amid hardship

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says his government is working tirelessly to make Nigeria become a net exporter of food.

Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday after a delegation from the Global Tijaniyya Movement, led by Khalifa Muhammad Mahe Niass, visited Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

He vowed to bolster agricultural productivity through various initiatives, including expanding farmlands, providing farmers with low-interest loans, and significant irrigation infrastructure investments.

“We are dedicated to equipping hospitals with modern equipment, providing healthcare professionals with training, and ensuring social welfare for every citizen, including comprehensive health insurance coverage.

“Nigeria will become a net exporter of food. We are bringing thousands of tractors. Food production will be greatly expanded through aggressive mechanization. We must be productive as a people. That is the Sunnah and the principles I grew up understanding,” he said.

President Tinubu’s assurance comes amid soaring inflation and rising cost of living in Nigeria. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in the December consumer price index, headline inflation stood at 28.92 per cent, while food inflation was 33.93 per cent.
