The Chairman of the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board, ZSUBEB, Professor Nasiru Anka, has lamented that the State has a large number of out-of-school children.
According to him, records show that the number of out-of-school children has gone up to 61 per cent in the State, assuring that there are formidable strategies to tackle the issue and reduce the rate to 20 per cent.
Anka said this while speaking with newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, saying the board would come up with a policy to enhance parents’ enrollment of their children in school which he said would be done through public enlightenment.
He said the challenge requires a multi-faceted approach, pointing out that it is on top of the list of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration’s agenda.
He further stated that if the insecurity is addressed in the rural communities, enrollment of children will be enhanced.
The chairman pledged to make teaching jobs attractive by improving the welfare of teachers, to enhance the quality of teaching and education in Zamfara.
He therefore called on staff members and stakeholders to work closely together to improve the quality of basic education.
