Zamfara stadium renovation: Sports Council demands timely completion

Zamfara State Council of Sports has said it is mounting pressure on the contractors handling the renovation of its Sardauna Memorial Stadium.

The Council said that the supporters of the Zamfara United Football Club were worried as the team is currently playing its home matches in Sokoto State, adding that most of the team’s supporters cannot afford to travel to Sokoto.

DAILY POST reports that the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has shifted the State Football Club’s home matches to Sokoto State stadium due to the renovation of the Sardauna Memorial Stadium in Gusau, the State capital.

Addressing newsmen in his office, the Executive Secretary of the Council, Hon. James Ishiaku, assured that before the next few months, the team will be playing its home matches at the Sardauna Memorial Stadium.

He explained that Governor Dauda Lawal has inspected the ongoing renovation project at the stadium three times and was satisfied with the level of work being done by the contractors.

“I have also inspected the ongoing renovation work and I am very optimistic that in a few months, the stadium will be ready for all kinds of sporting activities in the State.

“Even though we are playing our home matches in Sokoto State, the players are performing excellently.

“We have played four games and we won three of them and drew only one, without losing to any club. This is because, the present administration is determined to develop sports in the State as it cleared all the players’ outstanding entitlements,” he said.
