Zamfara PoS operators lament naira scarcity, say businesses folding up

Operators of Point of Sale, PoS, shops in Zamfara State have lamented that the current Naira scarcity in the country is seriously affecting their business: hence the need to inflate charges by 100 per cent.

DAILY POST can authoritatively report that the normal charge for withdrawing between N1,000 and N5,000 was N100 but is now N200.

This medium spoke with some of the operators who blamed the ugly situation on their inability to get enough cash from banks.

According to one Musa Magami at Tudun Wada area of Gusau, the State capital, “We have to pay more than the normal charges before we can get money to operate.”

Magami explained that the problem was not from them as people were made to believe, saying that it was from the banks.

Another operator, Usman Magaji, also noted that the problem was from the banks, saying that if they continued to charge the normal amount, they would go out of business.

He appealed to the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to intervene in the teething problem of Naira scarcity to enable people to go about their legitimate endeavours.

Shuu’abu Malami, another operator at Birinin Ruwa, added that many of the operators have already gone out of business due to the scarcity.

Some of the banks visited in Gusau revealed that most of the customers were stranded as there was no money in Automated Teller Machines, ATMs, because of the non-availability of cash in the banks.

A bank customer, David Akindele, who spoke with DAILY POST, said Christmas is around the corner, stressing that he worked very hard to save money to purchase clothes and necessary materials for his family, but he could not access it.

“Nigeria is still a country, not a nation because the economic situation of the country has caused a serious public outcry

“The situation has become so worrisome even after a change of government, the economic situation is getting worst,” he lamented.

According to him, many Christians may not celebrate Christmas comfortably due to their inability to access their hard-earned money from their banks.
