Zamfara NSCDC parades suspects accused of diverting therapeutic food

ZamfaraState Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, has paraded two suspects alleged to be involved in the diversion of ready to use therapeutic food meant for a healthcare facility in the Birinin Magaji area of the state.

Addressing newsmen in Gusau, the State capital, the Corps Commandant, Sani Mustapha, said that one Aliyu Labo 63, who is a driver connived with one Abdulahi Suleiman, 45, and a nutritional officer with Birinin Magaji Local Government Area to divert 33 cartons of RUTF.

He said the items were moved to the residence of Labo, who was asked to convey the products to Birinin Magaji Local Government Area.

“The Corps acting on intelligence, tracked these diverted products to the home residence of the said suspect, Aliyu Labo, where about 33 sealed cartons and 14 empty cartons of the RUTF were found inside one of his rooms,” he added.

“These 33 sealed cartons and 14 empty cartons were exhibits recoverd from the scene of search.”

The State Commandant said that the actions of the duo contravene sections 61, 309 and 315 of the ZPC Law, Number 18, 2024, and the Administration of Criminal Justice Laws.

He said the suspects will be arraigned before a competent court of jurisdiction at the end of the investigations.

He also paraded a suspect, Yahaya Mairake, 60 years, who was alleged to have voluntarily given his son, Muazu Yahaya, 18 years, to some hoodlums for disciplinary purposes, thereby causing grievous harm which eventually led to the death of the boy.

“His actions contradict Section 221 of ZPC Laws Number 18, 2024 and the Administration of the Criminal Justice Laws,” he said.

“The suspects will be arraigned before a competent court of jurisdiction when investigations are over.”

The Commandant warned parents to be mindful of the kind of discipline meted out on their wards to avoid such unfortunate incidents.
