Zamfara govt, partners to distribute 3.2m insecticide treated mosquito nets

The Zamfara State Government and some development partners have designed strategies for the distribution of 3.2 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets in the state.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by Faruk Mohammed Lawal of Breakthrough Action Nigeria, who stressed that the prevalence rate of malaria in Zamfara State was too high and needs to be addressed.

He spoke during a courtesy visit to members of the correspondents chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Zamfara State Council.

According to him, the team has embarked on public awareness campaign against malaria.

Lawal further stated that during the distribution period, a total of 3.2 million insecticide-treated mosquito nets would be distributed across the 14 local government areas of the state.

“We are trying to eradicate the menace of malaria, and to reduce the risk of malaria, we must use treated nets to prevent mosquito bitesm

“Zamfara is among the states with a high prevalence rate of malaria. Which something need to be done about this menace,” he said.

Also speaking, Linda Osaji from Breakthrough Action Nigeria revealed that 12,000 adhoc staff were recruited for the net card distribution across the state.

“The cards will be used to get access to the treated mosquito net, which would start on December 1st.”

She called on people of the State to use the nets for the targeted purpose, pointing out that the nets should not be used for fishing.
