Zamfara Assembly leadership intact – Kurya dismisses Speaker’s impeachment

The leadership of the Zamfara State House of Assembly has said the elected principal officials remain constitutionally recognized, saying the impeachment of the Speaker was illegal.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary of the House, Comrade Bello Madaro Kurya, saying that the principal officers were constitutionally voted in by the members of the Seventh Assembly during its inaugural sitting in June last year and are still overseeing their respective constitutional mandates.

“By this Information, therefore, the general public is hereby advised to note that there is no constitutional threat to the leadership of the present Seventh Assembly of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, therefore all well meaning citizens are hereby enjoined to continue going about their normal businesses without hindrance”, the statement added.

“Any further development will be communicated in due course as the House leadership continues addressing the internal rancor.”

Recall that on Friday, February 23, 2024, 18 lawmakers in the House announced the impeachment of the Speaker, Hon. Biliyaminu Ismail Moriki.
