The Benue State Police Command has reassured residents of the state of adequate security during and after the yuletide.
This was contained in a statement by SP Catherine Anene, the Public Relations Officer of the command in Makurdi, on Thursday.
According to SP Anene, Benue State Commissioner of Police George Chuku gave the assurance when he ordered divisional police officers, DPOs, and technical commanders to deploy police officers across the state in readiness for the Yuletide.
The statement added that Chuku directed security officers to secure all entry and exit routes as well as carry out motorised patrols of government facilities, churches, motor parks, and densely populated areas where people go to celebrate.
The Commissioner of Police also warned against the sale and use of knockouts and fireworks, advising traditional rulers, church leaders, guardians, and parents to warn their children and wards to refrain from such practices.
He advised groups displaying masquerades to be careful not to infringe on other people’s rights.
Stressing the commitment of the command to secure the state, CP Chuku urged the public to call any of the numbers, 08066006475, 07067374913, and 08057493117, for easy communication with the police during the Yuletide.
