Yobe: Police record 34 cases of gender-based violence in six months

The Yobe State Command of the Nigerian Police Force said it recorded a total of 34 cases of gender-based violence, GBV, in the state from January to June 2024.

The command’s spokesman, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, on Tuesday, made this known in a statement issued to journalists.

He said the latest such crime was the arrest of one Mallam Auwalu Haruna for allegedly abducting and impregnating a 20-year-old girl.

According to him, the medical examination revealed that the victim was two months pregnant and that she confessed to being coerced to drink a medicinal concoction, which rendered her unconscious and vulnerable to the perpetrator’s actions.

He added that the State CID has launched an investigation into the incident.
