The Federal University, Gashu’a, Yobe State, has confirmed the death of a 300-level student of Geography, Shamsiya Murtala, in the fire incident in one of the school’s female hostels on Saturday.
The university made the announcement on its official Facebook page.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic passing of our beloved 300-level student of Geography, Shamsiya Murtala, at Federal University Gashua.
“Shamsiya’s life was cut short today as a result of the devastating fire incident in the female hostel.
“We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our sincerest condolences to Shamsiya’s family, friends, and all who knew her. She was a bright and promising student, known for her dedication to her studies and her vibrant spirit.
“As a community, we mourn the loss of Shamsiya and stand together in solidarity during this difficult time. We will cherish her memory and the impact she made on our lives forever.
“May her soul find peace, and may her family find strength and comfort in the midst of this tragedy,” the post read.
DAILY POST had reported that a fire outbreak at the varsity razed down one of the female hostels, destroying students’ valuables.
