Yobe Assembly passes LGs’ 2024 harmonized budget

Yobe State House of Assembly has passed the 2024 local government areas’ harmonized budget of N71,167,000,000.00 to cover both recurrent and capital expenditures.

The House passed the budget into law following the adoption of the report of its joint standing committees on local governments and chieftaincy affairs and that of finance and appropriation on the 2024 local government areas’ harmonized budget.

Speaking shortly after the passage of the budget, the Chairman House committee on local governments and chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Mohammed Ali said in the 2024 local governments harmonized budget a total of N28,642,000,000.00 was allocated to recurrent expenditure, while over N42,524,000,000.00 is for capital services.

Ali noted that the harmonized budget will be utilized in the areas of water supply, health and agriculture for job opportunities to the teeming youths across the 17 local government areas of the state.

The chairman of the committee, who spoke on the importance of revenue generation, stressed the need for the ministry for local governments and chieftaincy affairs to provide a standard revenue collection mechanism to ensure proper revenue generation and remittance at the local government area.

He called on the local government caretaker management committees to follow due process in the implementation of the 2024 harmonized budget to ensure transparency and accountability in the financial transactions.

Presiding over the sitting, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon, Chiroma Buba Mashio commended the members for their contributions towards the quick passage of the budget.
