The Deputy Governor used her broom Wednesday as she supported commissioners to clear drains and refuse dumps in streets around the state capital, Yola.

Speaking during the event, Farauta said the SEC was directed to participate in the exercise in ensuring a cleaner city and secure environment.

Stressing the government’s commitment in ensuring that refuse and other unsightly things are evacuated regularly, Farauta appealed for more persons to participate in the environmental sanitation to support the drive for a cleaner state.

In the street cleaning campaign, the state government is partnering with an NGO, Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes.

DAILY POST reports that the Adamawa State Deputy Governor had, on Tuesday, directed the cleaning of refuse dumps around the environment to boost environmental cleanliness.

She had asked the state Urban Planning and Development Authority to remove illegal posters, refuse dumps and illegal billboards as a measure to strengthen monthly sanitation exercise.

However, the exercise is yet to be made mandatory for members of the general public.

She had given the order to the Urban Planning and Development Authority when inspecting illegal refuse dumps in the state, saying that, among other hazards, the illegal billboards were causing traffic and environmental hazards to the people.

She specified that some of the illegal posters and billboards erected on public structures were positioned in ways that obstruct the view of road users, causing accidents, especially at night.

She had similarly directed the state Ministry of Environment to provide an alternative solution for refuse disposal, warning that the government would no longer tolerate refuse being dumped indiscriminately.
