Speaking in an interview with journalists in Bauchi on Friday, General Manager of the State Tourism Corporation, Dr. Muhammad Nasiru Yusuf, emphasised the ecological and economic importance of Maladumba Lake, located in the Misau Local Government Area.

According to him, the shallow, natural lake is home to a diverse array of plant and animal species, including migratory birds such as the Grey Heron, white-necked stork, and green fruit pigeons.

He added that the lake also supports a variety of fish species, providing a crucial source of protein and economic activity for the local community.

Yusuf revealed that plans are underway to reintroduce the fishing festival by the end of this year or early next year, marking the event’s return since its last occurrence in 1985.

To enhance the site, the state plans to develop chalets for leisure activities and is considering the establishment of a wildlife park, allowing visitors to experience the lake’s biodiversity.

He expressed concern over the decline in tourism activities but noted that Governor Bala Mohammed is committed to revitalizing historical sites, cultural festivals, and natural attractions in the state.

“Plans are also being developed to involve universities, research centers and the private sector to strengthen tourism in Bauchi State and attract a global audience,” he stated.
