The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned a 36-year-old man, Aminu Shanaki, for allegedly abducting a child.<\/p>\n
Shanaki is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing before an Ikeja Magistrates\u2019 Court.<\/p>\n
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 7 at Kola Bus Stop in the Alagbado area Lagos.<\/p>\n
Iberedem said that the defendant stole a child belonging to the complainant, Mrs Kausara Olaegbe.<\/p>\n
He said that the defendant was caught by passers-by, who handed him over to the police.<\/p>\n
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 275(1)(a) and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.<\/p>\n
Section 275 stipulates 14 years jail term for abduction, while Section 411 provides two years for conspiracy.<\/p>\n
The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.<\/p>\n
Kubeinje said that the surety must be gainfully employed with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.<\/p>\n
She adjourned the case until October 15, 2024 for mention.<\/p>\n
