An Abuja-based lawyer and human rights activist, Maxwell Opara, has dragged President Bola Tinubu to court for allegedly elongating the tenure of Nigeria\u2019s Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr Kayode Egbetokun.<\/p>\n

The lawyer asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to stop Egbetokun from parading himself as the IGP.<\/p>\n

Opara is arguing that Egbetokun cannot remain in office as IGP having attained the age of 60 on the fourth of September, 2024.<\/p>\n

DAILY POST recalls that following the controversy surrounding the tenure of the IGP, Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Friday clarified that Tinubu did not extend the tenure.<\/p>\n

He said that instead, the President gave his approval to the law governing the tenure of the office as required.<\/p>\n

But Opara asked the court to hold that an appointment terminated by operation of law cannot be retroactively resurrected by a subsequent amended law.<\/p>\n

No date has been fixed for the hearing of the suit.<\/p>\n
