The immediate past president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed sadness over the death of the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.<\/p>\n
DAILY POST earlier reported that the elder statesman died on Thursday in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, after a brief illness.<\/p>\n
Reacting, Buhari, in a statement on Thursday by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, extended his condolences to the family, friends and associates of the deceased.<\/p>\n
The former president described Iwuanyanwu\u2019s death as a sad event for the nation, highlighting his contributions to journalism, sports, politics and nation-building.<\/p>\n
The statement added: \u201cHe was a visionary who revolutionised the nation\u2019s media and sports. He made notable strides in the media industry, construction, sports, business, and politics.<\/p>\n
\u201cI had several opportunities to interact with him to learn about his passionate commitment to the unity, peaceful coexistence, and development of Nigeria.<\/p>\n
\u201cHis rich contributions have left indelible memories in the media, sports, politics, and business, where he made extraordinary achievements.\u201d<\/p>\n
