Executive Director Prime Initiative for Community Development and Fiscal Transparency, Muhammad Abdu Dutse made the call on Friday during a \u2018Debt Justice campaign\u2019.<\/p>\n
He said the state\u2019s total debt has increased to N63.36 billion as of June 30, 2023, reflecting both domestic and foreign components.<\/p>\n
According to him, Jigawa remains the least indebted state in the country and in the Northwest Zone, with a total debt growth of 60.11 per cent from 2016 to 2021.<\/p>\n
He said Jigawa State, despite its commendable track record of fiscal discipline and debt sustainability, is not immune to the prevailing economic challenges facing Nigeria.<\/p>\n
The group underscored the need for strategic planning and allocation, ensuring that resources are directed towards essential services and initiatives that directly benefit the general populace.<\/p>\n
The group also advised the state government to halt borrowing for non-productive expenditures and focusing resources on initiatives that foster economic growth and development.<\/p>\n
