The Federal Government has commenced payment of the seized salaries of public university lecturers under the aegis of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.<\/p>\n

Comrade Nobert Oyibo Eze, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka branch Chairman of ASUU confirmed the development to DAILY POST.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, they have started paying. Even though I\u2019m yet to receive mine, some of our lecturers have received two months\u2019 payments out of the outstanding eight months\u2019 withheld salary,\u201d Eze said.<\/p>\n

Another lecturer also told DAILY POST that the federal government started paying on Sunday.<\/p>\n

He confirmed that two months\u2019 salaries have been paid to him out of the eight months owed him.<\/p>\n

Recall that President Bola Tinubu Tinubu had in October 2023 approved the release of four of the eight months\u2019 ASUU withheld salaries of the workers.<\/p>\n

Former President Muhammadu Buhari had invoked a \u2018No Work, No Pay policy\u2019 against ASUU for embarking on a strike that lasted eight months in 2022.<\/p>\n
