Dantata, who was a parliamentarian in the First Republic, spoke on Thursday while receiving a delegation of the 60 members of the House of Representatives who are seeking a return to the parliamentary system of government.<\/p>\n
He noted that Nigeria would be great again if the system is adopted.<\/p>\n
According to him, the presidential system of government, which the country is operating, is unmanageable and costlier, hence the need for change.<\/p>\n
\u201cThings are not working, the country is stagnant and the citizens are not enjoying anything out of it so there should be a serious moves to adopt the parliamentary system so that Nigeria would be great,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Dantata warned the legislators pushing for the adoption of the parliamentary system to be wary of personal interests.<\/p>\n
Speaking, the leader of the delegation, Kingsley Chinda, PDP, Rivers State, noted that the presidential system which Nigeria is operating now is costlier and cumbersome, making it difficult to manage.<\/p>\n
He said, \u201cEven Prime Minister would be chosen from the National Assembly and other governors and any attempt for them to go astray would be tackled easily by the members.\u201d<\/p>\n
Chinda urged Nigerians, and the media in particular, to support the move to adopt the presidential system of government.<\/p>\n
