‘Why we refund nursing students’ – Delta Govt

The Delta State Ministry of Health has given reasons why it refunded unauthorised fees to students in the state-owned colleges of nursing.

The money running into millions of naira was collected from over 162 nursing students―152 from the College of Nursing Asaba, across years 1, 2, 3 and PTS classes, and 10 students in the College of Nursing Sapele.

Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Onojaeme, stated during the refund exercise at the College of Nursing Asaba that, in response to the complaints of the students, a careful investigation revealed that certain fees, among others, were not authorised.

He added that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori condemned the illegal levies. He directed the immediate stoppage of the fees and ordered an immediate refund to the affected students.

Onojaeme said the gesture was a result of the concern of the governor that parents and students were not to be financially overburdened, especially during this period of economic difficulty arising from the current inflation in the country.
