Why NNL chose Lafia stadium for league opener – Chaiarman, Aluo

The Chairman of the Nigeria National League (NNL), George Aluo, has revealed the reasons behind selecting the Lafia City Stadium to host the opening ceremony of the 2023/24 football campaign.

Aluo revealed this while speaking to newsmen shortly after he met with the deputy governor of Nasarawa state, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe, at the stadium on Thursday, revealed that the state’s commitment to sports and the impressive renovations at the Lafia City Stadium influenced the decision.

He commended the ongoing renovation work at the stadium and acknowledged the positive impact of the state’s leadership on sports development.

“Additionally, the Governor has done well by appointing people with vast knowledge on sports and youth to head the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, in Hon. Jafaru Ango and Permanent Secretary, Barr. Isaac Danladi. I must say sports in the State is safe under their watch because they both possess the capacity to deliver.

“Generally, we are happy with what is happening in Nasarawa State, sports and security-wise, and to that extent, we are expecting a full house, come Saturday, this weekend, when Nasarawa United take on Zamfara United,” he said.

Aluo expressed optimism about the success of Nasarawa United FC, the home team, and acknowledged the competitiveness of the upcoming league season. He assured the public that the NNL is committed to organizing a challenging and high-quality competition.

The NNL Chairman thanked Governor Abdullahi Sule and the Nasarawa State Government for accepting to host the league’s opening match on short notice.

Recall that the initial schedule for the opening ceremony was to take place at Uyo Township Stadium, Akwa-Ibom State, but was changed at the last minute by the Board of the NNL to be staged in Lafia, the Nasarawa State Capital.

The game between Nasarawa United and Zamfara United is scheduled to kick off at 3 pm on Saturday, 11th November, with the expectation of high-profile dignitaries, including Governor Abdullahi Sule and President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, in attendance.
