In the wake of kidnapping, murder and insecurity in Akwa Ibom State, the Department of State Services, DSS, in the state said it would adopt a model that is technically backed up and people-oriented to stem the tide
Addressing newsmen who came on a courtesy visit at the command headquarters in Uyo, on Tuesday, the DSS State Director, Doyin Adetuberu decried the incidences of security breaches in the state, noting that the DSS and other sister security agencies are collaborating, especially on intelligence sharing to tackle the situation.
Adetuberu noted that operatives of the command had made some arrests concerning the kidnapping and murder of some persons in the state, saying that investigations are near completion and suspects would be charged to court soon.
His words, “On assumption of duties, we had issues of kidnapping and we took over flashpoints in the state, arrests have been made while investigations have reached an advanced stage.
“The security agencies in Akwa Ibom are united especially in intelligence sharing to tackle the issues of insecurity. I want to assure Akwa Ibom people that very soon they will be proud of the security agencies in the state due to the model we’ve adopted.”
On the issue of cultism and sundry crimes perpetuated by the youths, the DSS Director attributed them to “societal malaise and failure of family institution” saying that the family has a significant role to play in inculcating moral values to the children.
“The truth is that kidnapping, cultism and other vices are indications of societal malaise and failure of family institutions. We should realize that as a family we have a critical role to play in inculcating discipline to our children and ensure that they conduct themselves responsibly at all times.” He said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ, Anthony Bassey, told the DSS boss that he was on a mission to introduce the new leadership of the Chapel and for collaboration with the command.
