Ogun State government has refuted a rumour making the rounds on social media that it spent trillions of Naira on projects.
This contained in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the Governor, Kayode Akinmade, noting that the write-up was the handiwork of some political adversaries who were bent on distracting the governor.
The statement said the report contains fabricated narratives and malicious allegations, wondering how much the state makes to have spent N1 trillion on a road.
According to the statement, the allegations are entirely unfounded, mischievous and merely contrived to tarnish the good image of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration and officials of the government.
The state government emphasized that they are not only a laughable hatchet job but also a figment of the imagination of the purveyors.
The statement read in part: “The attention of the Ogun State Government has been drawn to a misleading write-up titled, “New twist in Ogun State re: #whereisourmoney?” making rounds on social media.
“The write-up contains fabricated narrative and malicious allegations of corruption against the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun in Ogun State.
“The write-up, which is clearly the handiwork of some political adversaries of the Governor, claimed that the state Accountant-General and five others were invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged diversion of Local Government Funds and that the Accountant-General was given administrative bail to go produce more documents, vouchers on almost payments in Ogun State between 2019 to date, while others were detained.
“One does not require a soothsayer to see through the deception packaged as whistleblowing. There is no gainsaying the fact that the Dapo Abiodun-led administration has been very diligent, transparent, and accountable with the finances of Ogun State right from its inception.”
