Wayas’ remains to be airlifted to his community – Gov Otu’s aide

The body of the late former Senate President Joseph Wayas will be lifted in a chopper from UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar to Bassang community in Obanliku LGA of Cross River State on 30th November 2024.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bassey Otu, Gill Nsa, who is the chairman of the central planning committee on publicity, made the confirmation in Calabar.

“We won’t subject Wayas’ body to travel long hours on the road to his final resting place,” Otu’s aide, Nsa, said.

A report emerged yesterday soon after a news conference by the chairman of the central planning committee for the funeral, Dorn Cklaimz, who announced the burial date.

Nsa said the main funeral will be held at UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar instead of in Bassang community in Obanliku LGA and will be attended by former heads of state, former Senate Presidents alive, former and present governors, as well as several other dignitaries.

“Thereafter, the body will be airlifted by a helicopter to Bassang community, where a mausoleum is ready as its final resting place,” he said.

The Office of the Senate President will shoulder the transportation bills from National Hospital Abuja to Calabar Stadium and to Bassang community, Cklaimz disclosed.
