War: Reasons behind Iran’s attack on Israel – Zimmit

A research fellow at Israel’s Institute for National Security Studies, Raz Zimmit, has provided his view on why Iran decided to attack Israel.

DAILY POST reported that Iran fired over 300 missiles and drones towards Israel on Saturday which was in response to the Israeli attack on its consulate building in Syria on April 1.

Seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, IRGC, and military advisors were killed during the attack by the Israelis.

According to Zimmit, Iran, one of the most militarised states in the Middle East, thought they had had enough after the attack on its consulate by Israel.

Iran’s response came after its supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, made it very clear over the last six months of the war in Gaza that Iran does not wish to be dragged into a wider conflict.

Iran’s highest-ranking Iranian commander killed in Syria was the highest-ranking officer to be killed since the US assassinated the Quds force leader, Qassem Suleimani in Iraq in 2020.

“The Iranians decided they had had enough. They took a risk but they calculated that if they did nothing vis-a-vis Israel after that attack then Iran’s deterrence would be compromised,” Zimmit said.
