Visitation panel seeks cooperation of management, staff of Abia University

The management and staff of Abia State University, Uturu, have been told to cooperate with the visitation panel, by providing the necessary information.

The chairman of the panel, Professor Steve Okorodudu, made the demand at Abia State Government House, Umuahia, after the members of the panel were sworn in by Governor Alex Otti.

He said that providing needed information would enable the panel to do justice to their tasks.

Prof. Okorodudu thanked the governor for appointing him and other members of the visitation panel and promised they would discharge their responsibilities well.

While swearing in the members of the panel, Governor Alex Otti mandated them to look into the records and structures of the university, including the management of funds, government subventions, internally generated revenues, and other intervention funds received by the institution from 2019 to 2023.

Otti regretted that the university has declined in recent times but vowed that his administration would not allow ABSU to deteriorate further.

The governor charged the members of the visitation panel to conduct a thorough assessment of the academic programmes of the school to ensure they align with the best global standards.

Otti, who recalled that Abia State University was known as a place for research and excellence until its recent decline, promised to restore its lost glory.

He advised the management, staff, students, alumni, and the general public to accord the panel every support, by providing information to them.

DAILY POST learnt that the panel would carry out its work in 90 days and submit its findings to the governor for implementation.
