The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf, has advised Christians to use this year’s Christmas celebration to pray for peaceful coexistence and unity among citizens of the country.
The Speaker stated this in a press statement signed and made available to journalists in Lokoja by his Chief Press Secretary, Yabagi Mohammed.
He described Christmas as a period for Christian Faithful and humanity in general to reflect on the essence of sacrifice and prayer, adding that there is no better time to pray for Kogi State and the country than now.
Umar, who described Kogi State as the heartbeat of Nigeria, further enjoined Christians to remember that beyond the twinkling lights, festive decorations and exchange of gifts, Christmas carries with it timeless messages that resonate in the hearts and souls of true believers.
“Christmas is a period to come together and pray for a better society even as the celebration teaches us the beauty of selflessness and generosity. The act of giving, whether it is a thoughtful present, a warm embrace, or a simple act of kindness, embodies the true spirit of the season,” the Speaker stressed.
“Christmas reminds us that joy is found not just in receiving but in the act of giving, fostering a sense of community and shared humanity, love and compassion.
“At the core of Christmas is the story of the Nativity which reminds us of the power of unconditional love and the importance of compassion. It encourages us to reach out to those in need, to empathize with the struggles of others, and to foster a spirit of understanding and goodwill.
“This period also serves as a reminder of the value of family and the importance of togetherness. It encourages us to prioritize meaningful connections, creating cherished moments with our loved ones. The holiday season invites us to set aside our busy lives and come together, fostering bonds that transcend time and distance.
“As we celebrate Christmas, let us carry these lessons forward into the coming year. May the spirit of giving, love, togetherness, hope, faith, and gratitude permeate our lives, guiding us toward a brighter and more compassionate future for us all in Kogi State,” the statement added.
