Unite your town – Gov Adeleke charges new Owa of Igbajo

The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on the new Owa of Igbajo, Oba Ademola Makinde, to unite the town.

The charge was given at the presentation of staff of office to Oba Makinde on Wednesday in Igbajo.

Adeleke charged the monarch to seek the growth and development of his town and the state at all times.

He urged him to mobilise his subjects for them to contribute their quota to the development of the state.

He also called on the indigenes of the town to live in peace and harmony with their neighbours, while they pay their taxes as and when due to the state.

“The government expects your maximum cooperation and support. Government expects you to live in peace and harmony with your neighbours.

“Government expects you to pay your taxes and levies as and when due. Government expects you to be good citizens of your community,” the governor said.

DAILY POST recalled that Oba Makinde’s appointment was a sequel to the removal of Oba Adegboyega Famodun, who was appointed Owa of Igbajo by the administration of the immediate past governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, on Friday, November 25, 2022.

The Akirun of Ikirun, Oba Olalekan Akadiri and the immediate past Aree of Iree, Oba Raphael Oluponle, were asked to vacate their palaces by Adeleke shortly after his swearing-in as governor on November 27, 2022.

Famodun, before his appointment by former governor Adegboyega Oyetola was the immediate past chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the state.

Adeleke, in a White Paper issued by the government in January, 2024 invalidated thr processes that led to the emergence of Famodun and Oluponle as Owa of Igbajo and Aree of Iree, respectively and called for a fresh process to select new monarchs for the towns.

The White Paper was made public after recommendations of the panel that probed complaints against decisions of the Oyetola administration relating to chieftaincy matters.

After his selection by warrant chiefs appointed by the local authority, following kingmakers’ reported refusal to commence a fresh process, Makinde’s appointment as the new Owa of Igbajo was approved by the State Executive Council at its meeting on March 11.
