Unemployment: ‘Lower your pride, learn a skill’ – NYSC members advised

The Bauchi State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, has urged corps members to lower their pride and learn a skill to be self employed and employers of labour.

Yakubu made the call on Thursday in Bauchi during the distribution of certificates of national service to the 2023 Batch “C” stream II corps members in the state.

Yakubu said that the call became necessary in view of the scarcity of white collar jobs.

She commended those who were able to learn a skill during the service year and tasked them to effectively build on it for maximum benefit.

“Let us not deceive ourselves, holding on to that certificate looking for jobs day and night which is frustrating.

“Don’t go and sit at home expecting a job as a graduate or disturbing your parents. Try to engage in business like other graduates that are making it by taking the challenge.

“So, please, lower your pride and learn a skill. If you haven’t learned one, it is not too late to do so,” she said.
