UK detects first case of more spreadable Mpox

A single case of mpox formerly known as monkeypox has been detected in the United Kingdom, UK.

The chief medical adviser at UK Health Security Agency, HSA, Prof Susan Hopkins announced this on Wednesday.

He said, “This is the first time we have detected this Clade of mpox in the UK, though other cases have been confirmed abroad”.

Hopkins, however, said the risk to the UK population “remains low, and we are working rapidly to trace close contacts and reduce the risk of any potential spread.”

According to BBC, the UK patient, who was recently on holiday in Africa, started feeling sick 24 hours after flying home.

The patient developed flu-like symptoms on October 21 and a rash three days later.

It was gathered that about ten people, who are the patient’s close contacts, including housemates, are being contact-traced.
