U-17 World Cup: Six countries qualify for quarterfinals

Morocco became the latest country to qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup quarterfinals in Indonesia on Tuesday.

The North Africans scored a stoppage-time equaliser, then beat Iran in a penalty shootout to secure a place in the FIFA U-17 World Cup quarterfinals.

Iran’s Hesam Nafari missed from the spot before Morocco’s goalkeeper Taha Benrhozil saved a twice-taken kick from Kasra Taheri. That gave Fouad Zahouani the chance to win it for the Atlas Cubs, and he duly smashed his penalty home to spark scenes of wild celebration.

Morocco joined the likes of Spain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, and Mali in the last eight.

Morocco will face Mali in Surakarta on Saturday.
