Two men remanded for armed robbery, kidnapping in Ibadan

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Friday remanded two persons- Sanda Umaru, 22, and Usman Yahaha, 28 – in a correctional facility for alleged armed robbery and kidnapping.

The defendants, of no fixed addresses, were charged with conspiracy, armed robbery and kidnapping.

The Magistrate, Mrs M. Olagbenro did not take the plea of the defendants for lack of jurisdiction.

Olagbenro directed that the case file should be returned to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

She adjourned the case until November 14, for mention.

The prosecutor, Insp Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 30, at about 2.00a.m, at Alaguntan village via Igbope, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Tellang said the defendants, while armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, attacked the complainant, Abubakar Umaru and robbed him of his cell phone.

He said the defendants also kidnapped Umaru and demanded N50 million ransom from his brother, Musa Umaru.

He said the offences contravened Sections 6(b), 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Nigeria 2004 and Section 4(2) of the Oyo State Kidnapping Law, 2016.
