Two men arraigned for alleged theft, assault in Ekiti

Two men, Rafiu Jamiu, 27, and Adeniyi Oluwaseun, 21, on Friday, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing and assault.

The defendants, whose addresses were not given, were charged with two-count charges of stealing and assault.

The prosecutor, ASP Caleb Leramo, informed the court that the defendants and others still at large committed the offence on December 4 at about 09:00 pm in Ijero-Ekiti.

Leramo said that the defendants and others at large stole an Infinix phone worth N73,000 belonging to one Miracle Samuel.

According to him, the offences violated Sections 302(1)(a) and 186 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

Counsel to the defendants, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant them bail, that they would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Saka Afunso, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N50,000 with one surety each in like sum.

He adjourned the case until January 12 for a hearing.
