Troost-Ekong reveals admiration for Super Eagles coach, Finidi

Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong, has expressed his respect for new head coach of the team, Finidi George.

Finidi is not new to the setup, having previously worked as an assistant to former handler of the team, Jose Peseiro.

The 53-year-old also enjoyed an illustrious playing career, winning the UEFA Champions League with Eredivisie giants Ajax in 1995.

The former winger was also part of Super Eagles squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations title in Tunisia in 1994.

Troost-Ekong cited Finidi’s appointment as a footballer and his humility as key reasons for his admiration.

“George Finidi is a legend. In African football, and Nigerian football, even here in Greece, whenever ex-Nigerian players are mentioned, Finidi’s name always comes up. Especially growing up in Holland, just outside Amsterdam, for someone who played so much for Ajax and achieved so much there, he’s someone I look up to and feel very connected to,” Troost-Ekong was quoted by Soccernet.

“He is always very humble, too humble for what he has achieved. Everyone recognizes the work he did for Enyimba last year when he won the league. So, for him to now get the chance to be the interim head coach [now the full-time head coach], I am very happy to see that. He’s a great guy.”
