The Nigerian Army on Saturday said its troops successfully conducted clearance and search operations in Borno and Nasarawa states, resulting in the killing of terrorists and recovery of firearms.
In a statement posted on its X handle on Saturday, the Army said the operations were carried out on April 19 in collaboration with hybrid forces in both Kana Village, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, and parts of Nasarawa State.
According to the statement, during the operation, troops had an encounter with the terrorists around Nguma Village and neutralized two in a gun duel.
It stated that the troops also recovered two AK-47 rifles, one motorbike, six bicycles, and other sundry items abandoned by the fleeing terrorists. The clearance operation is still ongoing in the general area.
The statement added that troops on the same day, acted on credible intelligence in Nasarawa State by conducting a cordon-and-search operation at suspected criminal hideouts around Abuni Village in Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The operation, according to the army, led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, two AK-47 magazines, and 35 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special).
“The recovered weapons were found in the residence of one Mr Abdullahi Musa, leading to the arrest of other suspects.
“These successful operations point to troops’ commitment in ensuring the safety and security of the populace. We urge members of the public to continue to support the Nigerian Army, other services and security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations”, it added.
