Transfer: You got the wrong player – How Man Utd star made Ten Hag buy Antony

Jadon Sancho told Erik ten Hag that Manchester United “had bought the wrong player”, as both men clashed over his role in the team, according to The Athletic.

Sancho signed for the Red Devils in a £73 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021.

However, the winger didn’t enjoy a good first season at Old Trafford, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer fired just four months after his arrival.

Sancho was frozen out of United’s first team since September and eventually shipped out on loan to Borussia Dortmund in January.

However, tension between Sancho and Ten Hag had been brewing before then.

For the start of Ten Hag’s first season, Sancho started on the right wing as United lost to Brighton at home, before they lost 4-0 away to Brentford.

It was after the loss to Brentford that Sancho told Ten Hag that United had “bought the wrong player”, as he preferred to play on the left.

The player’s reluctance to play on the right wing led to Ten Hag’s demand for the club to sign Antony from Ajax for £86 million.
