Transfer: They’re not good enough – Scholes slams Ten Hag for signing two stars

Former Manchester United ace, Paul Scholes has slammed the club’s boss, Erik ten Hag for signing Andre Onana and Matthijs de Ligt.

The former England international said both players are not good enough for Manchester United and Ten Hag’s playing style.

Manchester United signed Onana from Inter Milan last two summers for a reported £47 million fee.

The Cameroon International has, however, struggled to impress at Old Trafford since his arrival and has received substantial criticism for his performances.

Onana stood in between the sticks for 38 Premier League games last season, letting in 58 goals and maintaining nine clean sheets.

In just three Premier League games this season, the Cameroonian has conceded five goals.

This summer, the Ten Hag brought in De Ligt from Bayern Munich for a reported £43 million.

The former Ajax center-back has started just once for the club this season- their brutal 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Scholes feels both do not meet Manchester United’s required standards.

He said via The Mirror, “When Pep [Guardiola] first started doing it[playing from the back], you thought ‘wow, that’s brilliant’ and he’ll still do it now, of course he will. I think [Mikel] Arteta’s Arsenal are good at it but the players have got to be good enough to actually do it.

“I think Ten Hag actually wants to do it a bit with bringing that ‘keeper in and De Ligt, but they’re still not good enough at doing it and they end up just booting it anyway.”
