Nigeria forward, Muhammad Tijani has revealed Plymouth Argyle head coach, Wayne Rooney played a big role in his decision to join the club.
Tijani will play in the Sky Bet Championship next season after agreeing to a loan move to Plymouth Argyle from Czech Republic outfit, Slavia Prague on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old only linked up with Slavia Prague last summer and scored four goals in 19 appearances across all competitions.
The former Nigeria youth international is, however, ready to test himself in another environment.
Tijani stated that the desire to work with Rooney, a former Manchester United forward influenced his decision to join Argyle.
“Actually, he [Wayne Rooney] did. He is a football legend not only in England but in the whole world. He plays like a striker also [like me]. [So] I think it is a good move for me, that’s why I took the deal,” Tijani told OJBSports.
“He really influenced the move because when he called I was like ‘Wow! Look who is calling, it’s Wayne Rooney.’ I was shocked. I had to ask my agent, ‘are you sure it’s him?’ He said, ‘yes, it’s him, of course, just take the call,’ and then we spoke, and it was very good,” he said.
