Arsenal legend, Paul Merson has admitted he is surprised Arsenal did not ‘break the bank’ to sign 25-year-old Newcastle United striker l, Alexander Isak, in last summer’s transfer window.
Arsenal considered signing a new striker during the summer and were linked with a move for Isak.
Isak scored 21 Premier League goals last season and was tipped by many to excel at Arsenal.
But the Gunners ultimately decided not to bring in a new striker and backed Kai Havertz to continue in the false nine role this season..
“I’m a big fan of this lad,” Merson told Sky Sports when asked about Isak.
“I’m surprised Arsenal didn’t try and break the bank for him over the summer, I think he was the missing link for Arsenal.”
