Chido Obi-Martin has decided to join Manchester United after leaving Arsenal.
It has now emerged that former United striker, Ruud van Nistelrooy, played a crucial part in the transfer.
Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, claims Van Nistelrooy presented the club’s long-term project to Obi-Martin.
Romano tweeted: “Understand Ruud van Nistelrooy held direct talks with Chido Obi-Martin to present him Man United project for long term.
“Van Nistelrooy, crucial to get the green light from Chido as deal is done and set to be signed.”
Obi-Martin, 16, leaves Arsenal after his contract expired in June.
A new deal with the Gunners had been agreed but he wanted to move on because he had doubts over his potential pathway into first team football and the club’s project.
