Transfer: De Ligt, Mazraoui identify who convinced them to join Man Utd

Manchester United’s latest two signings, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have suggested that manager Erik ten Hag played a key role in their decisions to join the Old Trafford club this summer.

Man United had on Tuesday night confirmed the signing of both players from Bayern Munich.

De Ligt signed a contract that will see him remain at the Red Devils until June 2029, with the option to extend for a further year.

Mazraoui, on the other hand, signed a contract until June 2028, with the option to extend for a further year.

Speaking to the club’s website, De Ligt said: “As soon as I heard that Manchester United wanted me, I felt an excitement about the opportunity for a new challenge at such an historic club.

“Erik ten Hag shaped the early stages of my career, so he knows how to get the best out of me and I cannot wait to work with him again.”

On his part, Mazraoui said: “Erik ten Hag played an important part in my development as a player, so it is exciting to be reuniting with him as I enter the prime years of my career.

“I know what he expects from his players, and I will give everything to help the group be successful.”
