David De Gea could be set for a return to Spain during the January transfer window, according to ED.
The goalkeeper has been without a club since his contract with Manchester United expired in June this year.
However, it seems De Gea could be back playing in his homeland next year.
It is understood that Real Betis and De Gea have begun preliminary negotiations, with both parties inclined to make a deal work.
Los Verdiblancos are looking to complete the signing as their current number one, Rui Silva, is being linked with an exit from the club this winter.
If Silva leaves Betis, they would have a 40-year-old Claudio Bravo as cover.
The LaLiga side will offer De Gea a short-term agreement on reduced terms intended to be advantageous to both sides.
