Barcelona midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan, is set to leave the club only one year after he joined.
According to Mundo Deportivo, this is because of Barca’s money problems.
Gundogan earns around €20m-a-year with the La Liga giants and this salary is over 5% of the club’s total wage bill.
Barcelona were fined £434,000 for breaching UEFA’s financial rules last year and now find themselves in a “desperate” situation.
They need to raise money just to register players, including Euro 2024 winner Dani Olmo, who arrived from RB Leipzig earlier this month.
Getting rid of Gundogan would reportedly free up €14m (£12m) in the club’s fair play budget and could allow Barcelona to reinvest 70 per cent of these savings into new signings.
