Transfer: Arsenal, Chelsea battle to sign Julian Alvarez from Man City

Arsenal and Chelsea are in a two-way battle to sign Julian Alvarez from Manchester City.

The Athletic reports that Alvarez wants to leave the Premier League champions in search of more playing time.

The 24-year-old would also prefer to live in a warmer climate than Manchester.

It is understood City would not stand in the striker’s way. However, they would demand a £60m transfer fee, plus a further £17m in add-ons.

Atletico Madrid are interested in the player, but are unwilling to meet City’s asking price.

However, Alvarez could yet remain in England, as two of City’s rivals are eyeing a move for him.

Arsenal have been linked, as Mikel Arteta is keen to add a versatile attacking player to his squad after they finish second behind City in the Premier League last season.
