A policeman on stop-and-search duty was crushed to death by a trailer driver in Ringim Local Government, Jigawa State.
A family source, Malam Aminu, told DAILY POST that the incident happened on Tuesday evening, along Kano-Hadejia road in Ringim town.
He said the incident happened when the police officer, identified as Abba Safiyanu, popularly known as Abba Wise, along with his colleagues, tried to stop the trailer driver at a check point but he refused.
Aminu said the driver of the vehicle had run away and the victim was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
He said the deceased was one of the newly recruited police officers and was buried according to Islamic rights.
Spokesman of the Jigawa State Police Command, DSP. Lawan Shiisu Adam, said he is yet to receive any information on the case and promised to give details later.
