Tinubu at One: Nigeria has fully embraced community policing – Minister

The Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, has submitted his scorecard in the last nine months since he was appointed by President Bola Tinubu and one year of the Tinubu Administration.

Gaidam was one of the ministers who appeared before the media on the second day of the Ministerial Sectoral Updates being held at National Press Centre, Abuja, to mark one year of the Tinubu Administration.

He said that the Nigeria Police Force are collaborating to craft and execute a Revitalized Police Agenda and Transformation Roadmap, a bold initiative aimed at tackling current challenges and reshaping the Nigeria Police Force into a modern, proactive, and efficient entity.

He mentioned key focus areas in the pursuit of the Renewed Hope policing vision to include enhancing Infrastructure Development, boosting the Technical and Operational Efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force, enhancing Welfare within the NPF, establishing a Robust Policy framework for policing in Nigeria and prioritizing the Wellness of NPF Officers.

He also mentioned the strengthening of community Policing and Building Public Trust in the Nigeria Police Force, rebranding the NPF and Restoring Citizens’, confidence in the Force.

On what the Ministry has achieved in the past one year, he said it has established the National Criminal Data Fusion Center (NCDFC) for the Nigeria Police Force, strengthened the West African Police Information System (WAPIS), automated the Police Specialized Services.

He added that the Ministry has launch of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS),
enhanced deployment of tactical squads, strategic, shift towards E-Policing, enhanced Highways and Train Safety Measures, Revamped infrastructure at the Police Academy, lay emphasis on Community Policing and citizen engagement.

The Minister said that the Nigeria Police system has fully embraced community-oriented policing, acknowledging its significance in promoting a safer environment nationwide.

He said that Ministry of Police Affairs facilitated the promotion of 3,071 education officers within the police education system, ranging from salary grade levels 17 down to Level 07, who were owed arrears for over five years while the Police Pension Bill is currently under review to enhance the welfare of police officers.

He said that under his leadership, the Nigeria Police Veterans Foundation which supports retired police officers, has been established.
