Three killed as cultists clash in Edo

No fewer than three persons have been reportedly killed in a renewed cult-related clash in Benin City, Edo State.

DAILY POST reports that the deceased were allegedly killed in a clash between the Black Axe and the Eiye group.

The incident was said to have happened on Sunday night.

Two of the latest victims simply identified as Denco and Ariba were allegedly killed at a drinking joint at Igun junction between Igbesanmwan and Oza Street, off Sokponba Road in Benin.

It was learnt that while Denco was accosted by the assailants at the drinking joint, Ariba was killed inside his room shortly after leaving the drinking joint.

It was gathered that the deceased, who was drunk, left the door of his room open while sleeping.

The third victim was said to have been killed at 2nd East Circular area in the same day.

The latest development has started sending shivers down the spines of residents in Benin.

Recall that no fewer than 30 people including a journalist with a private broadcast station and vigilante heads were killed during a clash between members of the Black Axe and their rival Supreme Eiye Confraternities at the last Yuletide season in Benin.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, said he was yet to be briefed on the incidents.

According to him, not until we see our report coming from there (scene of crime), I will not be able to make a statement I don’t know about.

“Whatever I would say will be from the report that is coming from that place,” he said.
