A confrontation between rusticated students of Steel Secondary School in Ovwian, Udu LGA of Delta State, and officers from the Delta State Police Command’s Ovwian Division left residents on edge on Wednesday, October 3, 2024.

The standoff began when the school administration invited the police to address the students’ alleged criminal behaviour, which had been disrupting the school environment.

According to reports, CSP Aliyu Shaba, the Divisional Police Officer of Ovwian Police Station, swiftly deployed officers to the school to restore order. However, the situation escalated, pitting the students against the police. The students, already frustrated with their rustication, felt the police presence was an overreach.

Sources within the school premises have said the school might not likely be open for teaching tomorrow, Thursday, October 4, 2024.
