Taraba monarch seeks upgrade of chiefdom, creation of more districts

The paramount ruler of Jenjo community of Karim-Lamido local government council, David Robert, has urged the Taraba State government to upgrade the Jen chiefdom to second class status and create more district heads.

The monarch made the request on Saturday during the Jenjo Cultural Day Celebration, held at Major General Boniface Robert Sinjen Sports and Cultural Centre.

He asserted that upgrade will give the Jenjo people a sense of belonging.

“One of the greatest worries in this chiefdom is our request for second class status. We were initially on the same rank with Zing, Kona and Bali up to the early 70s having been a third class chiefdom since the 80s.

“Surprisingly, Zing has reached first class, while Bali and Bakundi are in 2nd class leaving Jen far behind.

“We are therefore, appealing to the state governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, to approve and upgrade Jen chiefdom to give us a sense of pride,” he said.

A former governor of the state, Rev. Jolly Nyame, urged the monarch to unite the people of the community and the council.

On his own part, the governor who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Timothy Katap, said his administration would not leave any stone unturned in addressing the numerous challenges bedeviling the state.

He also assured the community that in no distant time, they will be connected to a high quality road and other social amenities.
