Taraba: Environmental Protection Taskforce seeks youth cooperation against illegal mining

The Executive Chairman of the Taraba State Internal Revenue Service, Brig Gen Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa (retd), has urged youths to remain law-abiding and collaborate with the government in safeguarding the environment from illegal mining activities.

Faransa, who doubles as the chairman of the Special Task Force on Environmental Protection, Public Safety, and Prohibition of Deforestation, stated this on Wednesday during an engagement meeting with the Jalingo local government council task force team.

While emphasising the importance of collective responsibility in protecting the state’s natural resources, he reiterated the need to stop illegal mining and deforestation in the entire state.

Highlighting the detrimental effects these activities have on human life and the environment, he vowed to work round the clock alongside his team to end illegal mining and deforestation in Taraba.

“It is our collective responsibility to protect our environment against illegal miners and stop deforestation to prevent its adverse effects on humans,” he stated.

Soliciting support and cooperation from the people of the state irrespective of political, religious and tribal affiliations, he said the task of the committee is in the interest of Tarabans.

He pleaded with the people of the state on the need to continue to support the current administration of Governor Agbu Kefas, particularly in the governor’s efforts to combat illegal mining activities across the state.

On his part, the team leader of the Jalingo Local Government Council task force, Aliyu A. Isa, commended the governor for reactivating the task force.

He assured of the full support of the state’s youth for the administration of Gov Kefas in achieving its environmental protection goals.
